Andor: How Important is BBY5 in Star Wars?

Being the spinoff of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story which is set in the Year 0, it is revealed in the first episode of Andor that events in the series took place in BBY 5 which marks an important point in the whole Star Wars narrative. Star Wars: Andor perfectly encapsulates what has been overlooked throughout the narrative – the middle-management of the Empire in a closer scope. It also sees the various factions of the Rebellion finally coming together. This, itself, is an important point in the Star Wars narrative. It is exactly when the Rebel Alliance starts to form while the overconfident Imperial ranks feel as if they are invincible when they aren’t. BBY 5 marks the impending doom of the Imperial and plants the seed of the Rebellion.

Throughout other titles under Star Wars, BBY 5 has significance like in Star Wars Rebels when Ezra Bridger officially makes his way into the Ghost Crew and them meeting C-3PO and R2-D2 while on a mission. In Rogue One, it is the same year, BBY 5, when Saw Gerrera abandons Jyn Erso, pushing her to lead the fight and make a stand in Rogue One. Andor lies in the middle of all these events and with Saw Gerrera coming into the series, it is expected that Andor will draw a direct line for events that are yet to be told in the Star Wars story, especially on the Rebel Alliance. Star Wars: Andor Episodes 1 to 3 are now streaming on Disney Plus.
