Avatar: The Way of Water will feature the family of Jake Sully and Neytiri with their children Neteyam, Lo’ak, and Tuktirey, and their adopted kids, Spider, a human, and Kiri, a teenage Na’vi. Kiri will be played by Sigourney Weaver who played Dr. Grace Augustine in the first film. As Weaver takes on a new role in Avatar: The Way of Water, speaking with Interview Magazine, she teases what it is like to be back to Pandora playing a new character, giving her a completely different perspective of the movie, and explaining how being Kiri is something different from her previous roles. Weaver remains tight-lipped on the details of the movie but she teases the new role she will be playing, “So Avatar I can’t really talk about, but I would say that it’s the biggest stretch I get to play in every possible way.” Weaver adds how different it is to play Kiri compared to her other roles, “I think if Jim Cameron didn’t know me really well, he wouldn’t have cast me as something as goofy as this. In a separate interview with Empire Magazine, Weaver shared how challenging it is to play Kiri, “I was 5’ 10” or 5’ 11" when I was 11. I felt strongly that Kiri would feel awkward a lot of the time. She’s searching for who she is. I was thrilled to be given that challenge by Jim." After more than a decade, Avatar: The Way of Water is finally happening and it will be featuring the return of Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they bring up their family and fight for it to keep everyone safe at all costs. The wait is soon to be over as Avatar: The Way of Water premieres in theaters on December 16, 2022.
