Anime Stage Plays
A Chainsaw Man stage play is something that many fans didn’t expect considering the violent and vulgar nature of both the anime and manga. Not to mention that adapting the series’ grotesque devils for a stage production is going to be a big challenge. Though it’s not surprising that practically every popular shonen series has gotten a stage adaptation at some point. For instance, there are also stage play adaptations of hit shonen titles, including the likes of Fullmetal Alchemist and Jujutsu Kaisen. Even titles such as Attack on Titan are getting a stage adaptation in the form of a musical in 2023. Another hit anime that also got a stage play announcement is Spy x Family which will get a stage musical in early 2023. Though it’s fair to say that Spy x Family is going to be easier to turn into a play as its action isn’t over-the-top. Given the trend, it wouldn’t have been out of the realm of possibility for a Chainsaw Man musical to be produced. But from the looks of it, this stage play will not be a musical. Though it would’ve been interesting to watch the likes of Denji and Makima suddenly break out in song. RELATED: Where to Start Reading Chainsaw Man After the Anime
Chainsaw Man Stage Play Details
Right now, there’s no info yet regarding the stage play’s cast, though it’s confirmed that the cast will be announced at a later date. It was also confirmed that Fumiya Matsuzaki will direct and write the script for the upcoming play. While the anime adaptation by MAPPA featured creator Tatsuki Fujimoto’s heavy involvement, it’s not confirmed if Fujimoto will have a hand in this upcoming play as well. As for what to expect, the stage play doesn’t really give us much info yet as the key visual only consists of logos and info on a black background. Still, it will be interesting to think about how they will show Denji’s hybrid form, not to mention how the fights between Denji and the various devils will be portrayed on stage. The Chainsaw Man stage play will run from September to October 2023 in Tokyo and Kyoto. As with practically all anime stage plays, this will likely be a Japan-only run.
