The price increase was confirmed recently by Anime News Network, with the report listing the countries where prices were bumped up. Also in the report was information on price adjustments for Funimation.
Crunchyroll Price Increase
Previously, it was reported that the Crunchyroll subscription price will be increased in countries including Canada and Australia. Now, here are the confirmed countries where prices will be increased:
ChileCanadaAustriaFinlandArgentina
AustraliaNew ZealandMexicoNetherlandsFaroe IslandsGreenland
Specifically, the monthly subscription price will be higher in these countries beginning October 31, 2022. Aside from Crunchyroll, its sister platform Funimation is also increasing prices in select countries, including Canada, Australia, and Chile, though there will be territories with price decreases such as Brazil and Peru. The price adjustment increase is unexpected given that Crunchyroll lowered its subscription price in almost 100 countries back in July. However, it’s possible that more price adjustments will happen soon given that Crunchyroll is gearing up for its Funimation merger. Back in 2021, Sony acquired Crunchyroll and soon began to merge it with its existing anime platform, Funimation. Given these price adjustments along with the removal of legacy features, it seems that a merged Crunchyroll and Funimation website may be scheduled to release soon.
Crunchyroll Legacy Features Removed
Aside from the price increase, Crunchyroll also officially announced the removal of certain legacy features, some of which date back to the site’s launch back in 2006. These features will be taken off the website on November 1, 2022. Here is the full list of legacy features that will be removed: These features are mostly community-centric, so it shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise to see these being removed. After all, anime discourse has moved to platforms like Twitter, Reddit, and Discord. The page also lists steps on how to save photos for users who have used the Photo Albums feature.
