Cyberpunk 2077 just made its way into the anime scene through the collaborative efforts of CD Projekt Red, Studio Trigger, and Netflix with the series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and as much as the fans loved it, there would be no Season 2. Speaking with Famitsu, Japanese executive with CD Projekt Red, Satoru Honma, slams down the rumors about Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2, “Just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work.” Honma reiterated, “There’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background’.” Honma added, “Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners premiered on Netflix in September 2022 which is based on Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red. The web anime series stands as a prequel to the video game happening one year before what transpired in Cyberpunk 2077. The standalone anime series, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, follows David Martinez, a talented but impulsive street kid living in a dystopian world filled with crime, corruption, and cybernetic implants. When David Martinez got involved in a drive-by shooting where he lost everything, he makes a hard choice in life: become an edgerunner, living on the other side of the coin of the law. David Martinez becomes a cyberpunk in a high-tech black-market as a mercenary. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners immediately garnered positive reviews from the fans for its character arcs, to the animation of the series thanks to Studio Trigger, and to its worldbuilding as it introduces the dystopian world to everyone. Despite the clamor of the fans, unfortunately, there is still no Season 2 of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners in the works. Boasting 10 episodes, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is currently streaming on Netflix.
