Hunter x Hunter’s Long-Awaited Return From Hiatus

Hunter x Hunter is a manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Yu Yu Hakusho. The series began serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump back in 1998. Since its release, the manga has become one of Shonen Jump’s biggest hits, with the series getting over 84 million copies in circulation as of July 2022. Its success isn’t just limited to the manga as it has been adapted into two TV anime. The first was by Nippon Animation and ran from 1999 to 2001. There’s also a TV anime adaptation by Madhouse which ran for 148 episodes and aired in 2011. While the manga was initially released consistently on a weekly basis, Togashi began going on extended hiatus periods beginning in 2005 due to health problems. In late 2018, the series entered another hiatus which proved to be the series’ longest yet. Though earlier this year, Togashi started a personal Twitter account where he shared updates on his work progress. Earlier this month, Shonen Jump finally announced the highly anticipated return of the manga. Specifically, the manga returned earlier this week with Chapter 391 which was released on Manga Plus internationally. However, there’s no word yet on how long the series will run before Togashi will take a break. What we do know is that the next volume release of Hunter x Hunter will be released in Japan this November.
