For the past few days, a rumor has been running around the web where there are claims that DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran are planning to recast all major DCEU characters except The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker which are under Gunn’s purview. However, in a response to a fan question on Twitter, Gunn put down the rumor to rest as he denied the rumor that they are planning to recast everyone in the DCU except the roles in his own projects. “I keep seeing posts with this untrue theory. We’re not recasting everyone except The Suicide Squad,” he wrote.
Gunn did not elaborate on his response, but at the very least, we can safely say now that the new DCU will not be recasting every single role just like what some fans have speculated ever since the first wave of announcements were made regarding their plans on the franchise. Now, the question is which roles will Gunn and Safran end up recasting on their own new iteration of the DCU franchise. Obviously, we will never find out the answers until they make an official announcement and all we can do is speculate about what they’re going to do with the major characters, especially in the aftermath of Cavill’s exit. It’s also curious to see what he’ll do with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker characters, which are Gunn’s own projects before he took the position at DC Studios. An easy guess is that he will keep them due to his personal involvement, but there’s a possibility that it will go the other way. For now, let’s just wait and see what they’ll do on the new DCU franchise which we should be hearing about during the new year.
