Well, it turns out that Wanda wasn’t always the film’s only antagonist and as confirmed by concept artist Ryan De Silva, one of Doctor Strange’s fiercest foes in the comics was originally intended to be in the film. Taking to his official website, De Silva shared several concept artworks from the film, including a scrapped idea for the demon-lord Nightmare who is seen wearing medieval-style armor while riding a horse. It isn’t the first time that Nightmare was cut from a Doctor Strange project. If you may recall, he was originally set to make his first live-action appearance in the original 2016 blockbuster until director Scott Derrickson decided to remove him from the equation and just stick with Dormammu. Also: MCU Photo Officially Confirms Deadpool’s Scrapped Phase Four DebutIt’s a shame that we once again got so close to seeing Nightmare in the MCU but I totally understand how he was ultimately scrapped from the film since Multiverse of Madness is trying to establish the Scarlet Witch as its main villain. But considering how Wanda’s evil turn received a negative reception from the fandom, for the most part, I guess Sam Raimi should have just kept Nightmare. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is streaming exclusively on Disney+.
