It is no surprise that Downey himself has spoken up on the issue, seeing as he was one of the earliest members to be introduced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2008’s Iron Man. In a recent interview with Deadline, Downey states his thoughts on the matter by relating that superhero films are basically in the same industry as Tarantino. Check out Downey’s statement below:

Downey continues on to say how he has learned from his past experience, on how futile it is to declare who gets to be the movie stars and who doesn’t, seeing as there’s plenty of room for everything.
It’s great to see that Marvel actors such as Jackson and Downey took a stand against such, seeing that just because franchise actors are widely known for one iconic role they played doesn’t ultimately mean they aren’t ‘movie’ stars. Times are changing, as Downey stated in the same interview, and how an actor becomes one has certainly gained a different meaning, too.
There are no official announcements on Robert Downey Jr.’s return in the MCU yet, but there’s a slim chance he could be brought back as a multiverse variant of MCU’s Tony Stark or in a flashback for Dominique Thorne’s official debut as Riri Williams in Ironheart.
