As reported by DiscussingFilm, during their animation panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel Studios revealed some key details on Spider-Man: Freshman Year with one of them being the casting of Charlie Cox as the voice of Daredevil reprising his live-action role. They also announced that the series will release on 2024 and it will get a second season titled Spider-Man: Sophomore Year.
They also announced that characters such as Harry Osborn, Amadeus Cho, Nico Minuro, Doctor Strange, Doctor Octopus, Rhino, Scorpion, Speed Demon, Lonnie Lincoln, Chameleon, and Tarantula will also appear in the series although they didn’t reveal the voice actors yet. In addition, instead of Tony Stark, Peter Parker’s mentor in the series will be Norman Osborn just like in the comics.
It is exciting to hear these updates about the series and it looks like they are going back to the character’s comic book roots, unlike the live-action films. It also sounds like it’s no longer going to be canon to the MCU considering the characters that will show up and how they don’t align with the timeline.
It’s also great to learn that Cox will be returning to voice Daredevil and team up with Spider-Man in the series. It is certainly a wish fulfillment for fans who have been wanting to see it happen. It’s curious to see if they have more things in store leading up to its release in two years.
The series “follows Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.” Jeff Trammell serves as the head writer and executive producer.
