According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mare of Easttown director Craig Zobel has been tapped to helm the first two episodes of The Penguin as well as serve as one of the executive producers of the series. The project is being described as a Scarface-like series about the rise of Oswald Cobblepot (aka The Penguin) in the Gotham criminal underworld. It is also conceived as a limited series although it is unknown yet how many episodes will it have.
Lauren LeFranc (Agents of SHIELD) is serving as the showrunner of the series. She will also executive produce alongside Farrell, Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan, and Rafi Crohn. The project is also part of Reeves’ overall deal with Warner Bros. that he really signed. Based on his previous works, Zobel is a wonderful choice to direct the first two episodes of the series since he has proven that he is a great director and, as proven by Mare of Easttown’s multiple Emmy acting wins, he can guide an actor into an award-winning performance which is what he may do with Farrell. It is curious to see which other key players will they hire in the project. Also Read: Barry Keoghan is Ready to Play Joker Again in The Batman 2 The Batman is available to stream on HBO Max.
