Why Is Loid Called Twilight?
Tatsuya Endo, the creator of Spy x Family, has not yet explained the reason behind Loid’s codename. But if we were to try and analyze the word, it might have something to do with Twilight’s specialty. In Japanese, “twilight” translates to “tasogare,” which means “who is that?”. It is related to the phenomenon during twilight when things start to get completely dark before nighttime, making it hard to distinguish faces. In Spy x Family, Twilight is known for having many faces. He can easily disguise himself as another person to complete his mission, which is somehow related to the expression and definition of twilight. As a spy, Twilight has kept his real appearance a mystery so that not one of his enemies knows his real face. This is why the codename is perfect for him and his job as a spy. In the manga, it was revealed that Loid became a soldier after his family and friends died during the war. He decided to use the identity of a dead man and eventually got discovered by WISE.
